Technical Debt

Technical debt is like living in a messy home:
You think to prepare a cup of tea it only needs a pot to heat up water and poor on the tea bag. It happens that all the pots are dirty. You find stacks of old dishes in the sink. Before you can put them into the dish washer you have to empty the clean dishes… and you end up emptying the dishwasher, putting all the dirty dishes into the machine, so that you can use the sink and clean the pot to heat up the water for your tea bag. You are busy half an hour before you have your simple cup of tea. 
If you put this scenario to a restaurant nobody would understand why they should wait that long and pay you for all that time for just a little service. 
Nor do customers of a software product understand your technical debt.
